First step: choose the child and story idea · Parent-controlled experience
Suggested ages 6–8
The sleeper coach rocks like a cradle and Your child cannot sleep for excitement. At the next station a tired mother climbs in with a crying baby and no seat. Your child looks at Amma, then folds up the blanket, gives the mother the lower berth and climbs up top with Papa. The baby sleeps, and so, at last, does Your child, all the way to Nani's platform at dawn.
Story theme: Give up a little comfort and everyone rests easier
Suggested ages 6–8
Everyone fights for the upper berth, and Your child wins it by being first up the ladder. From the top, the whole compartment looks like a doll's house. Then Your child notices Dadi rubbing her knees on the middle berth, unable to lie down properly. Without being asked, Your child climbs down and swaps. Dadi sleeps like a baby. The middle berth, it turns out, has the best view of the fan.
Story theme: The best seat is the one you gave away
Suggested ages 3–5
At five in the morning, Dadaji hands Your child a steel bucket and points at Kaali, the big black buffalo. She swishes her tail and stamps. Your child is scared but remembers what Dadaji said: talk softly, touch her side first. Your child hums a film song, strokes her neck, and the first thin stream of milk rings into the bucket. Kaali chews and does not stamp again.
Story theme: Gentleness gets more done than force
Suggested ages 3–5
The tube well roars and cold water gushes into the channel, and the cousins jump in shrieking. Your child jumps in too, then notices that the water is running past the far field, where Ramu Kaka's crop is dry and drooping. Your child climbs out, finds the mud gate, and pushes it open with both feet so the water turns towards his field. Ramu Kaka brings jaggery that evening.
Story theme: Share the water and the whole village grows
